Supporting Families During Childhood Cancer Awareness Month: A Personal Commitment
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and I’m honoured to volunteer my time as a Financial Advisor with Childhood Cancer Ireland.
This cause is deeply personal to me. Our daughter, Ella May, was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma at just 18 months old. Today, she is a thriving 15-year-old, but I remember how life came to a standstill when we received the diagnosis. Our world became confined to a small room in Crumlin Hospital. Unfortunately, while time seemed to stop, the bills did not—and for many families, the financial strain is overwhelming, especially when combined with a sudden loss of income.
As a volunteer with Childhood Cancer Ireland, I assist families in navigating the complex financial challenges that arise when a child is diagnosed with cancer. I work closely with them to understand their existing plans and connect directly with life insurance companies to expedite any claims.
This assistance can include:
- Serious Illness Cover: Many parents have policies that automatically extend coverage to their children. I help ensure these claims are processed smoothly.
- Income Protection: If a parent needs to take sick leave to care for their child, I can assist in filing an income protection claim.
- Mortgage Relief: Sometimes, the best support is simply providing the contact information for the mortgage company, allowing families to request interest-only payments temporarily, easing financial pressure during a difficult time.
If you’re in a position to contribute, even a small donation can make a significant impact. Childhood Cancer Ireland would greatly appreciate your support.
